Pärtelpoeg, Mari

Mari Pärtelpoeg (24 June 1956 Tallinn), a metal artist, Leila Pärtelpoeg’s daughter.

She graduated from Tallinn 7th Secondary School in 1974, since then studied in the Estonian National Art Institute (nowadays the Estonian Academy of Arts), graduated in 1979. In 1979–80 she  worked as a restoration artist in Estonian Open Air Museum, 1983–90 as a professor in the metalwork department of Tallinn University of Art (nowadays Estonian Academy of Arts), since 1990 as a freelance artist.

A member of the Estonian Artists´ Association since 1990. The founder of the ON-group (1990),  she has participated in all of its exhibitions. She has made mostly jewellery, mainly necklaces. As a representative of the Estonian jewellery´s designer course, she has implemented the geometric form and paid special attention to the surface treatment; she has used several metals of different colours, stones, mother-of-pearl and enamel. Necklaces with archaic armoured braid based on the medieval ring shirts are unique (1985). Her work can be found in the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design.

She has stayed on Ruhnu during summer time, the owner of the former East Steffens farm since 1981. Years 2000–06 she spent in Gotland.
