Fredrik Joachim Ekman (12 September 1798 Uusikaupunki – 13 March 1872 Turu), Finnish and Estonian clergyman and educator; ethnographer. Father Carl Christopher Ekman (1747–1818) was the mayor of Uusikaupunki (Swedish Nystad). 

Until 1809 studied in Uusikaupunki and 1813–18 at Turu Cathedral School. After that 1818–23 studied theology at the Turu Acedemy (MA of Arts) and 1824–27 at the Stockholm Academy of Arts. 1827–30 worked at the University of Helsinki, 1829–34 at Vyborg Secondary School as a Swedish teacher, 1834–39 as senior Latin teacher. Ordained 11 April 1838 in the Turu bishopry. In 1840 was assistant minister in Espoo, 1841–42 vicar of the Ruhnu St. Magdalen’s Church congregation. After that a minister of the Stockholm Finnish congregation in Häämenlinna, Finland and from 1848 chaplan of the Turu Dome Church congregation.

Ekman and Ruhnu

On Ruhnu, he wrote the book Beskrivning om Runö I Liffland (transl. Description of Livonian Ruhnu). In the last two chapters of the book, presents an overview of ministers who had served the Ruhnu congregation. Ekman used two of the oldest parish registers as sources (years 1683–1835; both in the National Archive in Tartu). Ekman also compiled a chronicle that was later used by his descendants.
